Obituary for Lonnie Carpenter, Sr.

Lonnie Stuart Carpenter, Sr., 67, passed away Saturday July 4, 2020. Lonnie and Ruth Ann Daugherty were married for 49 years and loved each other dearly. He was born in Danville on April 28, 1953, one of thirteen children, to the late Mitchell and Florine Reynolds Carpenter, Sr.
Lonnie was a welder-fabricator with Honeywell for over 40 years and an active member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Lonnie served as the church treasurer for many years and recently was appointed the head of security. He loved his church and looked forward to attending every service. He enjoyed being with his family, camping, and was a former civil war reenactor. He built a civil war cannon and shot it for the first time, hitting his target on the day he passed away.
In addition to his wife, Ruth Ann, Lonnie is survived by four sons, Ricky Alan (Barbara) Lister, Randy Scott (Angie) Phillips, Rodney Dale (Melissa) Padgett, Lonnie Stuart (Jennifer) Carpenter, Jr., five siblings, Verril, Mitchell Jr., Joe Michael Carpenter, Inez Grigsby, Doris Gibson, five grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Including his parents, Lonnie was preceded in death by siblings, Kamos Carpenter, Tilden Carpenter, Jewel Vaught Long, and Shelton Carpenter.
The funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday July 9, 2020 at Walden Funeral Home Perryville with Pastor Johnny Morgan officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 – 8:00 p.m., Wednesday July 8, 2020 at Walden Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Rodney, Scott, Timmy Carpenter, Teddy Vaught, Michael and Keith Cash.
Honorary bearers will be Deacons of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
Memorial contributions are requested to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
